My son, M (15), and I spent the day in the Baking Lab on Saturday making loads of different French pastries. We learned a lot and most importantly, we both enjoyed our day immensely. The atmosphere was very relaxed and teaching from Ghalid first class. I think the proof was seeing how well our croissants, pains au chocolat and pains aux raisins turned out. We have certainly enjoyed eating all the goodies we baked on the day. The rest of the family did too!!! I have been sending the link to your website to people at work (who love baking) as it was such a great day.

Just a quick note to say what a great time I had. Thank you so much for such an engaging and stimulating experience. I had all but given up on macarons, but with renewed enthusiasm, I've already bought the egg whites, and have taken orders from both colleagues and family. Despite a few cracks everyone has been both impressed and enjoyed them enormously. And I didn't even pass off Marianne's as my own!

Thanks for letting me out early, it was a bit of a trek - I got home at midnight! But in spite of that, I'm sure I'll be back for a few more courses.


We had such a great time at the Intro to Bread class with Emmanuel and the team on Friday. We wanted to say thanks so much and share the team picture with you.

Hi Maria,

Hope you are doing fine. I took a one day class on Italian bread last July with you and Emmanuel Hadjiandreou at The Baking Lab. Since then, I have been baking quite a lot. I remember coming out of the class quite amazed (although I kept my amazement to myself then) at the world of baking.

Ever since I have been baking at least twice a week, and trying other kinds of bread, including sourdough, and using flour from locally produced wheat. I still have a long way to go, but I am loving it. I am sure I want to become a baker someday.

I wanted to wish you a happy 2014, and thank you for sparking my interest in baking. Please pass my hellos and best wishes to Emmanuel too.

Going to attend a 3 day baking session in February at The School of Artisan Food taught by Emmanuel. I am super excited to learn more.

Hi Maria,

just want to thank you and Marianne for a lovely class. I picked up several great baking tips that I know I'll use again and again. I've had a go at the carrot cakes at home. They came out perfectly, looked beautiful, and we're snatched up and eaten immediately. The chocolate torte was a favourite for my girls, as shown in the attached picture.

Finally, I just want to say a few words about Marianne. She has an amazing CV, yet she was so down to earth, practical, and very helpful. She created a lovely and calm space for learning. She was simply great.

I'm sure I'll return for another class and I'll likely send my food loving husband too.
